The voyage around Britain and Ireland will utilise entirely renewable resources of: wind, wave, tidal and solar power along with food and drink sourced from sustainable producers in The UK. I am passionate about our seas and how we can all enjoy and live from them without abusing them. I have been toying with the idea of my own campiagn of : ‘NOTS’ Nil Over The Side. During the trip around the UK and Ireland not one scrap will go over the side and that is a promise!
In a recent press relase I was quoted : “My ambition is not just to sail around the UK and Ireland but in doing so leave little or no trace or impact of my voyage. Unfortunately many use the sea as a ‘tip’ and what is out of sight is out of mind. I would like to think my low carbon, low impact ambition is a positive statement to those who enjoy and make a living from the sea. I am passionate about how look after our seas and aim to complete the voyage with not one scrap being thrown overboard and having used only renewable energy. I have also based my food provisioning around suppliers who have strong sustainability values.”
The trip offers a unique opportunity to take a snapshot of our seas around our entire coastline. Alan will be recording wildlife observations and supplying his records to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Society who will in turn pass the records on to like organisations around the UK.
